Pros: |
Zero wear, brighter tone than original |
Cons: |
Brighter tone than original, slight raspiness when first used, but quickly smooths out |
I have a considerable number of the the original material picks in a variety of sizes and gauges. For quite some time I was using Govan extra heavy. (I still use them quite a lot.) However, I started working with CIII extra heavy for a change up. I really liked it ... then I lost it. I wanted to order more, but they were currently unavailable so I thought I'd give these Tuff Tones a try (CIII x-heavy, right hand speed bevel). In short, I like 'em quite a lot. They are a rather brighter tone than the original, especially noticeable on acoustic. I didn't get grip holes (I usually do) ... the material is comfortable and doesn't slip around at all. There was a slight amout of "raspiness" when I first used it as compared to the original, but that quickly smoothed out after a few hours of playing. I could have probably used one of the super fine grit maintenance files on it, but haven't ... and see no real need to now. After a couple of months, ~2 hours/day, I have noticed ZERO wear on the Tuff Tone. So, I am quite pleased with the purchase of these. (I will however order some CIII extra heavy in original material when they become available since I sometimes prefer the less "bright" tone.) Hope this helps you make up your mind when it comes to these picks!
